Ashtanga Yoga is one of the most powerful and popular methods of Yoga. The Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series created by K.Pattabhi Jois is a traditional, lineage-based yoga practice that builds strength and flexibility while maintaining breathe, bandha and Dristhi.
In this workshop, we will learn about the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga, talk about the 8 different limbs of yoga and practice the Primary Series 1.
We will start by warming the body up with a series of sun salutations A and sun salutations B then we will move into the standing sequence learning the transitions between each pose. After the standing sequence we will move into the seated sequence and explore jumping back and jumping through in our vinyasas. We will close our practice with the full finishing sequence, breaking each pose down and looking at different variations to use for our bodies. This will include backbends, shouldstand and headstand.
Suitable for students with some Ashtanga experience who want to try this style of yoga and experience the whole Primary 1 series. If enjoy other forms of yoga you might also find this workshop beneficial, as many of the poses will be familiar to your practice. Don't worry if you can't do all of it, just stay with your breathing and enjoy the flow and steady rhythm.
*Some experience of yoga is required and this workshop is not suitable during pregnancy.
